It’s Friday, which means Rosetree rehearsal day. Every Friday Nancy Page teaches the morning ballet class and runs a combined rehearsal for all the pieces we have learned so far during the summer intensive. The rehearsal gave me the opportunity to see the new choreography from last week for the first time, and I must say I loved it. Both the pieces, Fang-Ju Gant’s jazz and Meredith Rainey’s contemporary ballet, are very intriguing, using fast paced music and physically demanding steps to really show off the talent of the dancers. Along with these two pieces we also have a three-section ballet that Martha Chamberlain and Jonathan Stiles are collaborating on, one section of which we learned this week, and a lyrical dance choreographed by Sonny Leo that we performed at this year’s recital. With still more choreography to come next week it is hard to believe that Rosetree is only two short weeks away, but the way everything is looking ensures it will be a show that definitely won’t disappoint!
