A Season in the Life...
03.21.2011

The ground has begun to thaw, when it has for so long been frozen in a wintery world of ice, snow, and freezing temperatures. Spring has begun to leap onto our horizons, twittering, warming and exploding with new beginings. Excitement runs through the air, as the clouds and gray succumb to the deep blue skies dispersed with puffy white cotton-ball clouds. Diaphanous clothing allows the glowing sun’s rays to reach our hearts, reminding us that the freeze is almost over.

I cannot believe that All Mixed Up, our spring-series, is just a month away. As we tinkered on through winter, our feet freezing, the necessity to stay warm a constant worry, we forgot what was right around the corner— just on the edge of our horizons. Those bright, sunshiney 70 degree days swooped in just when we needed them, and left us feeling rejuvinated.

This spring performance is intense… Not only physically demanding our absolute best, but also mentally challenging the very depths of us. From the intricate (not to mention) fast, corps work, to the agile, inconceiveable lifts and impecable timing of a principal dancer, we’ve all felt the heavy weight of stress on our backs.

But it’s slowly melting away. And we are all pushing forward, with lithe steps and calculated movements, as time continues to fly toward the end of April, when all of our hard work (roughly over 12 hours of rehearsal per weekend) culminates in two, long-anticipated shows. This spring season is rewarding on so many levels (dance, weather, etc.). We can only look to the horizon with hopeful eyes as we wait for what is to come.
