A Season in the Life...
01.13.2011

I wake up, bones creaking and cracking. As my eyes open, I notice the eerie dim glow emanating from my window. Pulling the slats apart in my blinds, I note with glee that it’s snowing and evident by the white blanket covering my neighborhood, it has been for a while. And just as soon as that childhood glee at the sight of snow begins, it dims. I have to get to ballet at ten o’clock, and judging by the covered roads, this will be difficult. Thus, I commence a war with the wintery weather around me.

Oh, ballet in the wintertime. There’s no rest for ballet dancers, even when there’s snow. But without my ballet schedule during this off season, I would feel incomplete.

Brandywine Ballet’s winter season always goes by too fast… Nutcracker ends in a blur of laughter, smiling, and dancing our hearts out. Then we sit back as Christmas flies by us, trying to get to the New Year, (which also lasts a mere two seconds.) And before you know it, you’re back in the studio taking classes, and getting ready for the spring performances to come.

It’s hard to think about Spring, especially when outside my window this very second, is the inclement weather.

But as I said, there is no rest in the ballet world. And my excitement for what is to come will get me through these frigid, static weeks.
