A Season in the Life...
11.19.2010

I hear (so often) voices in the hallway at the BBC….”One day I want to be Lucy!” Well, maybe you will, but along with the glory comes pain.  Exact words from my mouth- “Tim, after you spin Jaime around as much as possible, slide her across the floor, bite her , and discard her.” Rob and Timothy(wonderful new-comers to Dracula this year), also had their part in lifting, sliding, and at times throwing Jaime, leaving her arms covered in bruises, and her body sore and rather beat up. ”Lucy” is a role that requires and dancer to go from a young beautiful flirt, to a blood-crazed vampire.  Throughout the ballet, her make-up constantly changes, her costumes change,  the style of dancing becomes more and more aggressive and intense.  She dances with Dracula, her fellow vampires, in the middle of 16 girls, in the middle of 32 girls, etc.  She gets lifted, spun around, thrown to the floor, bitten, and stabbed. WOW!  As the choreographer I do worry at times, and I have to make sure I’m not demanding too much, but when I hear giggling coming out of Jaime’s mouth, I know all is well! So, to the voices in the hallway,  I created Lucy…Jaime made her come alive…..  brilliantly.  I hope one day you can too!
